EMILIA the movie

in june, i headed out to louisville, KY to help my friend lyman creason make his first feature. he wrote the script and directed it. michel deascentiis production designed and i art directed. since he and i were the entire art department, it meant we also built and painted the sets, did all the graphics, found the props, stood by on set, etc etc. it was a great time and the experiences we had are priceless. below are some photos of the build and our actors in the set. the build was a 40' long hallway made to match an actual location, and a 12' x 16' storage room off of the hall:

look for EMILIA this winter! its being edited now...

art for the blind

my recent work, and photos from my show this weekend. all are acrylic painted wood panel, hammered with copper nails and copper wire, all encased in resin. hand built wood frames. drawer pulls are found. each piece has a phrase in braille nailed into it, beginning with the letter shown, as in classic illuminated letters. translations are below each image:

"make yourself immortal"

"words and a book and a belief that the world is words"

"i'd tell you all you want to know and more if the sounds i made could be what you hear"

"here is how to handle being a feral prodigy"

"you'll worry less what people think about you when you realize how seldom they actually do"

"how totally banal of you to ask what i really mean"

"look at that fucker dance"

"make yourself immortal"

"carry on, regardless"

scenic painting

for the movie "THEO", this wall of windows was for an old tobacco stained flop house set. but as there was no translight, i needed to make them translucent. here is how they looked lit for camera:

this was the hallway set. i applied grass wallpaper, stenciled this pattern, and aged it down:

backdrop painted for "black & white" spring 2010 catalogue
8'x8' panel:

backdrops i painted for the bergdorf goodman holiday 2009 window displays:

scenic props

pop-out birthday cake

made for the jerry springer show, but rented out for many occasions.
includes a step inside for multi-use by strippers or small people.
4'x4', wood, paint, felt, silk

the cash register is an antique, the "marble" is actually a wood panel i cut, painted and finished with wax:
